My name is Hokato and I want to share the testimony of God’s love and mercy upon my life. I am from Nagaland, and I grew up in a loving home and attended Sunday school and church as a child. I was a good child growing up and nobody ever thought that I would become a drug addict.

But I fell into addiction and struggled for 16 years. Because of drugs I lost everything. My education, my career, my health and my respect.

I had a sister who really loved me. When she became very sick she wanted me to be with her, but I could not support her. She died in my arms, with a desire that I would change. I was unable to be with her when she really needed me. Because of addiction, my family, friends and society rejected me.

For one full year I lived on the street. Many times I was caught by the police and became a shame to my family. I tried to change many times, and went to many rehabs, but I would fall again.

My life was so hopeless and lonely. I thought that I could never change. But God’s thoughts are not my thoughts, and God’s ways are much higher than my ways. And because of God’s great love for me,  I came to Life Challenge in 2012.

I did not have much hope when I came. But slowly after reading God’s word, and hearing the messages at the center, something began to change inside me. I humbled myself before God, and accepted my problem. I began to pray to God. I began to learn about love, patience, self-control and change my behavior, and become a new person.

By God’s grace I have been free from addiction and I am serving in Bangalore Life Challenge as Assistant Coordinator.
